Living with OJD: Some more questions for ya! :)

Hey guys! So, I've gotten quite a few more questions since the last Q&A and I am finally finished sorting through emails so I picked out 10 or 15 and thought I would share them with you :) I've sorted out all the emails that I got while I was away and I intend to respond to every one of them, even though it might take me a while. So please be patient, and if you can refrain from sending lots of new emails until I respond to your previous ones, that would be great :) Enjoy!

Paris:
Q#1 - What was Paris like?
A#1 - Paris was really cool, it was amazing to see all the sights and eat all the amazing food. The thing that most interested me though was the fashion. Many people wore unique and up-and-coming clothes that I've never seen before. I'm definetely trying to start some trends though!

Q#2 - What was your most rewarding experience during your travels?
A#2 - I would have to answer this with a quick story. There was a man staying in our hotel and he appeared to be by himself for the most part, always wearing a suit or something business-ish. He always tipped his hat to us in the morning breakfast room, but I was always curious about him. Finally, one night I was walking down the hall to get more ice from the machine and he had his suitcase with him. I asked him if he was leaving and he told me that his sister was going into labor back in the States, so he wanted to be there. He told me that he was originally from Canada and then he moved to Georgia with his family when he was just a kid. He traveled back and forth from Paris and New York for business, but he decided to stay just a little bit longer in Paris this time because he loves it so much. I went back to the hotel room and wrote the whole conversation down, and now he has taken the name of John, the friendly hotel guest at the place where Nina stays in the book :)

Q#3 - Where you nervous about going to a place where they don't speak English fluently and everything is different?
A#3 - Yes, I was at first, but once I got there I realized that a lot of people spoke both English and French. Many of the people who I communed with were just there on business from the States, so mostly everyone was fluent in English. I actually got lost when we first arrived, and that was a little scary, but luckily I found my way to the hotel and it was definetely an idea for the story to be worked in.

Home Life:

Q#4 - Do you enjoy being at your own home after traveling for so long?
A#4 - Of course I miss it and it's really nice to be back, but when I was in Paris I was so busy writing that I didn't really have time to miss anything, and in California I was so tired out that I wanted to just relax someplace that wasn't my house, because actually, I wouldn't have been able to relax here because there's so much going on. But it is good to be home and really focus on school work and family.

Q#5 - What did you miss most about your house when you were away for so long?
A#5 - I missed my dog and cat most of all, because a lot of family and friends came with me for parts of the trip. When we were in California, I just missed being familiar with people and missing all my things.

Q#6 - What's your schedule when you don't have anything special going on?
A#6 - I'm usually up by 10 on most days, and then I do my school work, take a break for lunch at noon or so, then go back to working. When I finish around 2 or so, I talk to my friends on the phone and work on some writing or clean until my mom gets home. Then, we usually either go out to eat, or shop on nights that aren't busy. We almost always have things going on.

Rumors:

Q#7 - Who are you dating? I heard that you weren't allowed to date. Is that true?
A#7 - No, that's not true, but right now I am single. I've been away for so long and it's only know that I'm getting back into the swing of things. My parents just want me to be happy, so for right now it's more just myself and me feeling like I'm ready to date again or not.

Q#8 - Did you refuse to make an apperance at a book store in New York City because they didn't pay you enough?
A#8 - No, this is the most absurd rumor yet. First of all, I haven't even been to a NYC bookstore, nor have I been offered money to make an apperance at one. Second of all, I definetely wouldn't refuse to do a book signing or something, even if it was no pay. I don't write for the money, I write for my enjoyment and hopefully other people's enjoyment as well.

Books:

Q#9 - When is the book coming out and what is it called?
A#9 - We've tossed around a lot of names, so far nothing is permanent. I like the current name, but I could wake up tomorrow, look at it again and decide that I hate it. So I don't want to give anything out yet that is subject to change. And it should be coming out this summer, if everything goes as expected. The editing process takes a long time so it's tough to have a set date for a book if rewrites need to be done or something that might take longer than estimated.

Q#10 - Why can't I find On That Day anywhere?
A#10 - It's currently been on backorder in most everywhere, mostly because the publishing company that I was with only allowed a certain number of books to be distributed to each store, and not a lot of copies came from the printer. Supposedly like 50 copies per state, omitting Alaska, Hawaii and Oregon. I'm actually working on getting it switched over to the company I'm now with, because they will help get the word out a little better and print a lot of versions and copies for us. I'm still super proud of that book though.

Thanks for reading, I'll try to have more questions soon but I'm really tired right now so I'm going to go to bed :) I'll keep you guys updated! Bye!

Living with OJD: Good to be back!!!

Hey everyone! Wow, it sure has been a while!
I am back from my trip and I am finished writing my novel! It's in the final stages of editing and should be out to stores by May 2009. I can't believe it's been this long! It seems like I was in Paris AGES AGO! I'm so glad that I recovered this blog, it sure has some great stuff on it. I stayed in Paris until the end of July, stopped home for a few days and then flew out to California for the greater part of August and September. It was SO much fun and I really enjoyed my vacation. I'm just getting back to the internet, as I lost my laptop (:-O) in Paris and couldn't buy another one until we got the correct internet hookup in our California home, which didn't happen until days before we left to come back to NY. I just turned on my computer for the first time in two and a half months! It's crazy to basically jump back into normal life again after such an extraordinary time in my life. I'm getting to work now on school and catching up with friends, even thinking about how to start my next novel! Paris was beautiful, there were so many sights and sounds and tastes and the people were just amazing. California was the absolute best place I could've ever been for a nice relaxing two month break. I'm excited to get back to you all, sorry that it's been so long! I look forward to catching everyone up to speed on what I've been doing and what's to come. A few reminders since last time: PLEASE EMAIL ALL QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS ON ANY OF THE BLOGS, don't leave comments on this website. I don't ever look at the blogs so I won't be seeing any comments or questions here. The email to do so is melaniehasojd@aim.com. And last but not least, I will be figuring out another Q&A segment for you soon, but I have about 300 emails on this account and 900 on my personal email. It's going to take me some time to get back into the swing of things. Please be patient, but keep emailing and let me know how your summer went and what your school year has been like! I can't wait to hear from you all! Bye :)

Living with OJD: 90's kid and OMJ I'm back!

Hey everyone! So I know that I haven't posted in about a month, (actually it's exactly a month) but I've been super busy in Paris all this month! I'm here with my friends and family and an awesome camera and production crew that is following us around, documenting my life as I write my first novel with my new publishing company. It's about a girl who goes on a trip to Paris all by herself at age 15. I'm really excited to hear everyone's reactions to the first draft and cannot wait to send it out to my agent. I've been getting an amazing amount of responses to my blog and I will keep doing it, but I honestly forgot until last week and this is the first moment I've had free and alone where I'm not working on the novel. When I last left you guys it was the night I had gone out to the Camp Rock preimere. Question: did you guys enjoy CR when it came out on the 20th of last month? I hope so! The Jonas Brothers and I have kept in contact and we talk on the phone every once and a while. I cannot wait to see them with Demi Lovato in Saratoga, New York in early August. I'm very excited to support my new friends; they are so talented! Thanks to everyone who has read my blogs since the beginning, it's truly devine what this is turning out to be. I'm so happy that I got to meet a few of my fans yesterday that live here in Paris! It's such an eye opener to see how other people live and talk all around the world and I hope that soon my next books will take me to all other parts of the world.
Okay, so I came across a myspace bulletien and it's called "You know you're a 90's kid if..." and I thought I would show it to you all. But, being the writer that I am, I couldn't just copy and paste it and let it be. I'm gonna give you little snippets after EVERYTHING in the bulletien and that way, maybe you can learn some more about me. Also, before I forget: I'm getting lots of other questions, so I'll start preparing to do another Q&A soon.

You’re a 90’s kid if:
You remember watching
-Kenan and Kel - YES! Amazing show (: Very funny, but I realized that Nick tried to recreate it with Drake and Josh. Think about it.

You remember reading "Goosebumps" - I never read them because they were too scary! But do you guys remember the Babysitters Club? I do!

When everything was settled by:
-rock paper scissors or
-bubble gum bubble gum in a dish or

You know the Macarena by heart - Who doesn't???

"Talk to the hand" - HAHAHA (:
You went to McDonald’s to play in the playplace - Always did!
Before the MySpace frenzy
Before the Internet & text messaging
When you wish you had a pager
Before Sidekicks & iPods
Before PlayStation3 or X-BOX 360
Before Spongebob
When light up sneakers were cool
When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs
When gas was $0 a gallon
When we recorded stuff on VCR
You had slap bracelets!
You Actually played outside until it was dark
Way back
Before we realized all this would eventually disappear.

I think this is a wonderful bulletien because it does make you realize that America's children are all Gimme-gimme kids. We take a lot of things for granted. Don't ever forget about the older luxuries!

Sorry for any typos! Also sorry this is so long! I'll check back in soon! Bye!

Living with OJD: BIG NEWS!

OMJ OMJ OMJ! Today was officially the best day of my entire life! I'll tell you all about it...
7AM - awoke with a fright because my phone was ringing. I stumbled to the kitchen and found it was that publisher that I had interviewed with. They want my next book and it was officially approved! I am now with Poppy Publishers! I'm very excited because this is the publishing company of The Clique Series, Gossip Girl, Poseur and more! The one, very small downside is that my books won't be as deep, as I'll be attracting a whole new teen audience which is awesome since I still am a teen. I was so excited that I thought I would never be able to go back to sleep but, big surprise, I did anyway.
10AM - I woke up for the second time and started working on my latest book.
11AM - My tutor arrived and I did my school work, which at this point is mostly finished for the year.
1PM - Went out to lunch with some of my very good, very close friends from People Magazine. I was interviewed there quite a while ago and I made some life long friends from it.
3PM - Went shopping with a few of my good friends and some family members. Found an awesome bathing suit!
5PM - Out to dinner with my cousins at the mall.
6PM - Got another very exciting phone call! It was my mom who told me to come home immediately. I had so idea what was going on, so my cousin dropped me off and when I got inside, my mom told me the best news I will ever hear: I was invited to the Camp Rock premiere by none other than THE JONAS BROTHERS! She said that they had read my first book and when they learned I was only 15, they set out to find me. I was so excited, but it meant we had to move quickly! I packed an overnight bag and we took off to the local airport. We landed in NYC at 7:30 and off we went to the most exciting night of my life.
8PM - THE JONAS BROTHERS arrived at the theater. I had already met Demi Lovato and some other awesome stars of the movie. When they said their hellos to everyone, I thought I was gonna pass out. They kept getting closer and closer to me and finally, they saw me. They came right over and each of them gave me a big hug and said they couldn't wait to meet me! I was so happy!
9PM - The movie started and guess what? NICK SAT RIGHT NEXT TO ME! I was so excited! The movie was phenominal; I'm still humming the music!!!
12AM - Said goodbye to JB and thanked them for such an amazing night. JOE KISSED ME ON THE CHEEK and asked about my newest book which I was happy to tell him about. Went to our hotel and I am completely exhausted!

So today was full of great news and shaking with excitement. I don't want today to end! I just found out that I'm staying in the same hotel as the Jonas Brothers, so I'll probably get to have breakfast with them tomorrow. This is seriously the best day ever.

Thanks everyone for checking in, you guys are awesome! Keep emailing me with ideas for blogs, I'm working on a few right now!

Living with OJD: THANK YOU.

Hey everybody! A couple things before I start: one, I'm sorry I haven't posted in about a week! Things have been super busy! I'll explain in a little bit.. two, I want to thank you all for sending me emails making sure I'm okay and also a big thank you to a few of you who have bought my book! I'm not quite sure where you found it, but kudos! I hope you guys like it!

Okay, so I've been pretty busy this past week, I had two of my first interviews and a very special audition I'll tell you about as well! The first interview was with a publishing agency who wants to get my next book on their line. I'm really excited about it because they're very well known and while I love the little family feel of my current publisher, it's just not the recognition I would've hoped for. The other interview was for a teen magazine called Seventeen, maybe you've heard of it? Haha, it's a huge corporation and I'm super excited to be a featured writer for their upcoming Summer issue. Make sure you pick up a copy! My other exciting peice of news, I went to an open casting call/audition in NYC for a new musical called Spring Awakening! I love the musical and the audition was like a dream come true. I'm not sure what they thought, all they said was "good job" and "thank you" so hopefully I'll get a callback, but if I don't, it was still really amazing. I met a lot of cool people in line waiting all day with similar interests, so that was wonderful. I can't imagine what it would be like to make it on Broadway, but I'm assuming it would be amazing. Wish me luck and I'll get back to you guys about it soon!!!

So this was a quick update, it took me a while to write though, I'm working on a new book and I keep getting side tracked. I've finished three books so far, this will be my fourth one. I'm hoping my second one will be published sometime in late Summer with the new company, but we'll see. My career is just taking off, and I thank all of you guys for being there for me.

Living with OJD: More questions !

Hey everyone ! I want to start this off by saying two things : one, you guys are seriously awesome and two, I'M SORRY that I haven't been able to respond to everyone's questions. Since a couple days ago when I posted my first Q&A I have gotten so many new questions! I really appreciate it, everyone. I'm getting a lot of related questions, so I decided that I'll be a little organized in this blog ( for once ). Keep going with the shoutouts, I'm trying to post as many as I can !

Q: How tall are you?
A: I'm about 5'6.

Q: Are you ticklish?
A: Not extremely, but a little.

Q: Are you afraid of anything?
A: The dark, large birds, horror movies, being alone ...

Q: Have you ever/ do you collect anything?
A: I used to collect those things inside bottle caps, like the little bluish-greenish thing. I think at one point I collected rocks =] And if you saw my room today you'd think that I collect notebooks full of story ideas, but I don't ; they just happen.

Q: Where do you get ideas for your books?
A: Everywhere! I find little objects all the time that make me think of something else and soon, I'm evolving a story out of it. I would have to say though, my biggest help is the newpaper. Take a look at the comics sometime if you're interested in writing ! You might get a little, silly idea and think about it so much that it turns into an elaborate, awesome idea !

Q: What kind of movies do you like to watch?
A: I love comedies, specifically romantic ones. I'm a big chick-flick girl. I'm not crazy about adventure movies or anything, and horror movies really scare me.

Q: Do you like to cook?
A: I love it ! I rarely do, but I mostly love to make desserts. I love to bake cupcakes, brownies, muffins, cakes .. !

Q: Have you ever been proposed to?
A: Haha, once ! Since I'm only fifteen, I did turn him down, but he was just some random guy that I had gone on two dates with a while back. He got kind of obsessed rather quickly.

Q: What's the sickest you've ever been?
A: Probably when I had mono. I mean, I didn't feel like I was gonna die or anything, but it was just a surreal feeling. I didn't want to do anything and I was just tired all the time. That was the worst part.

Q: What's your favorite movie?
A: I have a couple ! My all time favorite movie is Lion King, but the one movie I could watch over and over again would have to be either Elf or Juno. I love Superbad also. My favorite that's in the theaters now is Made of Honor. That was super !

Q: Do you blast the music in your car?
A: I always listen to music in the car ! I'm not sure that I blast it, but next year when I have my own car, I will be !

Q: What's your favorite season?
A: I'm a big fall/winter fan. A lot of my friends / family can't stand the winter here, but I don't mind it at all. I love an excuse to get all cozied up around a fireplace !

Q: Do you have any nicknames?
A: I sure do ! My mom and the rest of my family / close friends call me Mel, but some of my other friends have special, random nicknames for me. Mouie, Lanie, Rose, Melerie, Melcamee, etc.

Q: What electronics can you not live without?
A: Def. my cell phone, a camera, a computer, iPod ( even though mine's broken ! ), a straightener, and I can't think of anything else, but I'm sure there are more !

Okay you guys, it's 4 in the morning and I can't hold my eyes open anymore ! I love all your questions, they're just great. Thanks for all the awesome original questions, they're really cool to read. Please keep sending them, I only got about halfway down my list this time, so I'll for sure be posting another one of these soon ! I love to here about you guys too, so maybe you guys could send some Q&As to me ! That'd be so cool. Well, bye ! xoxo ! Tell your friends !

Living with OJD: Q&A with yours truly..

Okay, here's my best Q&A for now..
Q: How old are you?
A: I'm fifteen.

Q: How long have you been writing?
A: I've been writing ever since I learned how. I think my first story is from kindergarten and I haven't stopped since. But the first actual novel I sent to publishers took me about two years and I was thirteen when I finished it, and fourteen when I sent it.

Q: What's your favorite bands?
A: My favorite bands are Metro Station, Jonas Brothers, Panic at the Disco, Boys like Girls, Carolina Liar and Fall Out Boy. My favorite solo artists are Billy Joel, Miley Cyrus, Colbie Caillat, and Chris Daughtry.

Q: How tall are you?
A: I'm about 5'6, the last time I measured.

Q: What's your natural hair color? Have you ever died it?
A: I'm brunette, I have been since I was little except for a short period of time a few summers ago when I had some really gross blonde highlights.

Q: What's your favorite color?
A: Green. I don't know why though.

Q: What's your favorite song?
A: I have a couple, actually. It's a tie between That Green Gentleman by Panic, Seven Things by Miley Cyrus and Play My Music from Camp Rock by the Jonas Brothers. Also I love A Little Bit Longer by the Jonas Brothers, but it's unreleased.

Q: What's your birthday?
A: July 6th. It's the same as the president's =]

Q: Where do you shop?
A: I love Garage and American Eagle. I buy all my jeans at PacSun and Famous Footwear for most of my shoes. I buy jewelry kind of anywhere I see it.

Q: What colors are your room?
A: My walls are white and all my furniture is black. It's a really cool contrast. I think I'm gonna get someone in here to paint a mural of the Jonas Brothers on my wall. How awesome would that be?!!?

Q: Do you like to meet fans?
A: Absolutely! It's so flattering, I really appreciate it when people stop me for a picture. I hope someday I'll be like Jodi Piccoult or something, but we'll see.....

Q: When's your next book coming out?
A: This summer, I believe it'll be early August if things go as planned.

Q: What's the name of your book?
A: It's called On That Day and it's about a three kids who lose their father on September 11th. It's not totally non-fiction, since the family isn't real, but I know a lot of people who did lose their family members and I feel that this book reflects some of the things these families went through. My heart goes out to all of them.

Q: Are you christian?
A: I am, but not "hardcore." I don't go to church often, but I do go on holidays, which is wrong of me, I know.

Q: Are you single?
A: No, currently, I have a boyfriend. It's not the guy from summer camp, but he's a really awesome kid whom I love a lot.

Okay, that's all for now! Bye!
